True Meaning of Love

"Love is Patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres."
-1 Corinthians 13:4-8

Growing up, you learn to truly understand what it is to love someone. You also learn who truly loves you, be it family or friends. I have seen people from both who display envy and jealousy and who seem to only be happy when you're not doing well. They seem to rejoice in seeing you have problems or issues, and when something is going well for you, they become jealous and talk about you behind your back. Now I'm not going to lie and say I've never looked at someone and said I wished I could have what they have, anyone who says they never in their life thought that, is lying. But we grow up and we learn to trust God in all areas of our life and we decide how we view things. I wish nothing but the best for all my family and friends and rejoice when I see things go well for them. I cry and pray when things go wrong. Anyone who knows me knows I am not a pity party person, when someone comes to me for advice I will always be the one who encourages, is positive and tries to help you see the light at the end of the tunnel even when all you see is the darkness. If you need me to stay silent and listen I will, but I won't ever be the one who joins in your hate for someone, or reply with negativity, God does not call us to be that way. And I will not give advice that goes against God's word. I expect the same from everyone I love. I do what I can for everyone, I do not hoard what God gives to me. I will always help those with whatever resources I have because I find joy in doing so. That is what love is. Giving of yourself in whatever God has blessed you with, be it prayer, money, time, food, a house to stay. Never wishing anything bad on anyone and being happy when you see a loved one being blessed, even when your own life is not in the best situation.

Our Law

This past Sunday I was at my church listening to the sermon when the pastor said something that sparked a revelation in me. He said something about God's law and not following it. It occurred to me that when we who know the truth of God's word and yet choose to do things our own way because we feel we know better or that we need to deal with things in our way we just wrote our law. It ceases to become God's law and we create "Romi's law". (insert your own name for your own example ;-) ) When is it ever ok to write our own law? We decide that we know better than God and therefore His laws, His ways, His commandments are null and void and we take over. Wow, how presumptuous of us to think we know more than the creator of our universe. Pride is so overwhelming that is causes us to veer from God's word and make excuses for what we do, the decisions we make and the way to live our life. Thankfully we have a forgiving God that will listen to our prayers and forgives our trespasses as we should forgive others who trespass against us. Let us get over ourselves and do what is asked of us from our loving God. As hard as it may seem sometimes, He knows best and His word is above all.
